The Moose Lake Historical Society announces its 8th annual book signing. It will be held on Saturday, December 5th at the Blacklock Gallery in Moose Lake from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
“Leatherheads Of The North” by Chuck Frederick. This book highlights the Duluth Eskimos, the “greatest” football team that was ever put together and the team that saved the NFL. “Leatherheads Of The North” tells the fascinating story of Ernie Nevers, the Eskimos and their notorious exploits on and off the field from the early years when they were sponsored by Kelly-Duluth Hardware, through their storied 1926-27 barnstorming season and beyond.
Jim Heffernan, now retired from the Duluth News Tribune has compiled a number of articles from over the years titled “Cooler Near The Lake”. This is a collection of 52 of his classic newspaper columns from over the years. His writings are filled with humor, heart and his unique insights on life, his and others, through his newspaper career, his youth, his years as a writer, husband, father and grandfather.
Betty Lampel Lehet has authored the latest book on the village/area of Kettle River. It is titled “Kettle River, Minnesota: A Look At The Last 100 Years”. The highlights of Kettle River history are told through newspaper clippings, photographs, sales receipts and other print data obtained from historical papers, the Moose Lake Area Historical Society and family papers and memories.
Tony Derkins “Crossing The Canal” is an illustrated history of Duluth’s Aerial Bridge. Packed with over 250 photos, illustrations, maps and diagrams, “Crossing The Canal tells the story of Duluth’s Aerial Bridge as it has never been told in the first full length book about this Duluth landmark.
Raymond Rath of Bruno will be presenting “The Cecilia Odyssey”, highlighting the sailing saga of he and his family as they spend five plus years on the sea, starting off as land lubbers.
Cathy Wurzer will be presenting “Tales Of The Road”, the story of Highway # 61, as it runs through Minnesota from the Wisconsin border to the Canadian Border. Cathy will also have her DVD from the documentary show on PBS last March.
