50 years agoNew Area Hospital Unanimously Approved at Special Meeting At a special meeting held Tuesday night in conjunction with the Farmers Union, a new area hospital received unanimous support from a standing vote of over 100 interested parties form throughout the area. The special hospital discussion got underway about 9 p.m. or soon after the Farmers Union group had completed their regular business meeting. Re. E. L. Rieff, Atty. Stan Dodge and Lee Boekenoogen made up the panel board to answer questions brought up about our local hospital situation, with Clem Newman acting as moderator. Mr. Dodge, secretary of the local hospital board, reported on when the state’s fiscal year of 1963 begins July 1, 1962. Rev. Rieff, representing local area ministries, reported that the ministerial association has met with area Village councils and town boards presenting a plan to organize a district hospital area. 25 years agoSpecial meeting fails to resolve clerk vacancy A special meeting of the Barnum City Council Monday night failed to shed much more light on the city clerk’s position for that municipality. The last regular session of the coucil earlier this month produced the resignation of the present clerk, Danny Baresh. Baresh served a two week notice to the council, but that time deadline would expire before the next regular council session so a special session to consider the clerk’s position had been arranged. With going to what will be the third city clerk in under a year for the City of Barnum, councilors contemplated a stiffer criteria for the description of the clerk’s role in handling the city’s affairs. Neither recommendation nor resolution was offered at the Monday special session, but Baresh did consent to carry on with the clerk’s role until December 4th. On that date, the Barnum city Council will have another special session in which to consider those applicants who meet the qualifications the city is looking for in the clerk’s job. 10 year agoMoose Lake Federal Credit Union to change name Moose Lake Federal Credit Union will be changing its name to Lake State Federal Credit Union effective January 1, 2000. According to Credit Union President Tom Olson, the name change evolved as a result of the significant growth in membership both in geographic size and in numbers. “The new name is intended to better describe the area we serve rather than focus on one particular town or community. This enables members to better identify with the Credit Union Office in their respective communities and to make people in general more aware of their eligibility to join the Credit Union.
