The Carlton County Fair will begin on Thursday, August 13 and runs through Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the fairgrounds in Barnum, MN. This is the place for exciting events, family fun and great sights. The gates open at 11am on Thursday. Watch the livestock shows of the day and check out the professional draft horse pull and the food! Stipe Shows midway will open at 6 pm. On Friday August 14th, see sheep, rabbits, dogs and many other animals being judged and stop by the Petting Zoo too! Show off your fancy footwork at the Senior Dance with the Chmielewski Funtime Show Band in the Pavilion and visit with the Mounted Posse and the vendors. It’s a Wrist Band day from, 12:30-4:30, so ride till your hearts content, on the Midway. The 3rd Annual Talent Contest begins at 6:30pm with the winners advancing to the State Fair Competition. On Saturday, it’s Military Family Day! Military personnel and their immediate family receive free admission, by showing current orders. If mom or dad is currently serving out of the area, the family can show the orders to receive free admission. Everyone is invited to the flag raising at 8 am with the Fond du Lac Honor Guard. Join in on the family activities in the Pavilion and see the Little Bees Theatre Company perform too! Later on, you can answer the question “Who are Crows in the Corn?” Make a point to watch the horse races and Figure 8 Races in the Grandstand and of course, try an International foods treat. Sunday brings a nondenominational Church Service with Monroe Crossing following in the Pavilion. Check out more activities like the 4-H Llama Show, Draft Horse Exhibition Show, the Horse Races, Wrist Band day in the midway and Colleen Myhre and the Kettle River Trio in the Pavilion.
