Ernest W. ZywickiErnest W. Zywicki, age 71, of Carlton, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born January 23, 1938 in Willow River, MN to Benjamin and Mary (Kiminski) Zywicki. Ernie served with the U.S. Army and Reserves for 6 years. He worked as a construction supervisor for Riihiluoma Construction. Ernie was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. He also loved hunting, being in the woods, traveling, gardening, and was a great cook.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ambrose Zywicki; and three sisters, Evelyn Weir, Blanche Vanneste, and Louise Balut. He is survived by his wife, Lou; one son, John Zywicki of Carlton; two daughters, Gina (Gary) Follett of Cloquet and Kelly (John) Laveau of Wrenshall; two step-sons, Kristian and Kendal Killian of Mpls; two step-daughters, Karin (Matt Welch) Killian of Chicago, and Kassandra Killian of Hilo, HI; one brother, Don (Judy) Zywicki of Prior Lake, MN; one sister, Florence (Jack) Jesberg of New Prague, MN; six grandchildren, Malia, Amber, Seth, Shana, Luella and Syrus; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Memorial Mass at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton. Inurnment services will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Carlton with full military honors presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 Honor Guard. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow in the church social hall. The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care of Cloquet to assist them with arrangements. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families who have a relative with a mental illness.  A family support group meets in Cloquet at 6:00 p.m., on the third Friday of the month, at the Outreach Center, 24 10th St..  For information, call Kevin or Carol at 218-384-9956.
