Congrats to Peggy Sue’s Café! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Senator Tony Lourey

To the Editor:

I’d like to congratulate Peggy Sue’s Café in Willow River for receiving the Small Employer of the Year award from the Minnesota State Council on Disability. Owners Peggy and Al Villa were distinguished by this agency, which strives to expand opportunities, improve the quality of life, and empower individuals with disabilities.

As a family-owned business in a small town, Peggy Sue’s was recognized for providing employment for two disabled high school students. The Northern Lights Special Education Cooperative helped establish this win-win relationship between the students and the restaurant. Through these dishwashing jobs, the kids learned new life skills and gained confidence. The restaurant also benefited from the extra help, with improved efficiency and reliable customer service.

I’m really proud to represent an area where folks come together to help everyone succeed. There are countless examples of small businesses giving back to our communities during these challenging economic times.

We should do our best to support these establishments. Congratulations again to Peggy Sue’s Café for receiving this honor!

Sincerely,
Tony Lourey
State Senator
