Letter to the Editor;

I usually try and not meddle in other towns affairs, but felt driven to respond to anonymous’s letter to the editor in the last issue.  The  writer was responding  to  Mike Mikrot  and the Sturgeon Lake Fire Dept concern that more funds were needed towards ensuring adequate fire protection for their response area. I am not debating what the  adequate  funds should be only that to say that ensuring adequate funds for the best fire protection possible  can’t be covered by a  one time grant, fish/ steak fry or a bake sale! The writer is obviously out of touch on what it takes to keep a community running smoothly and safely for its residents... do I like  or even want to pay more taxes of ...course not !!  But I would  if meant that I  could sleep better at night knowing that my Fire Department  has the proper equipment .( not  equipment that  as it reaches the end of its reliability could ....I say could affect response time to possibly the writers house  and minimize loss to the writers  property  and God forbid his or families life). The writer must not have known  that Sturgeon Lake  did receive a FEMA grant  for  protection equipment a few years back and that they are trying to access sources for funding

I have worked with Sturgeon Lake Fire Dept  many times over the last 15 yrs. We have helped  them with fire responses and accident calls  as have they  helped us in our area.

All they want is equipment  that will keep them safe as they keep you safe...  Help them do that the best you can.The are not trying to shoot  for the moon, just protect you..

I look forward to seeing “anonymous” on the ballot in the next election as he seems to have all the answers for your town.

Thank you
Steve Trenhaile- Supporter of the members of SLVFD
