Marshall School is excited to announce a performance by the Yale Whiffenpoofs at Marshall School this Friday, November 6, 2009 at 7 pm. Two years ago, the Yale Spizzwinks performed to a sold out auditorium on the Marshall Campus. This year, Yale’s top choir will be coming. This performance in Duluth is their only scheduled performance in Minnesota and the concert will benefit educational travel experiences for Marshall students.
The Whiffenpoofs are the nation’s oldest a cappella singing group and a true national treasure. Celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year, the Whiffenpoofs have become one of Yale`s most celebrated and hallowed traditions, maintaining a performance schedule of over 200 concerts annually in addition to recording an album and embarking on a 17-week world tour. In recent years, the Whiffenpoofs have performed for the likes of Presidents Reagan, Bush 1, Bush 2, and Clinton; Mother Theresa; and the Dalai Lama. They have performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall,
Lincoln Center, and the Rose Bowl for events such as the World Series, Saturday
Night Live, NBC`s Today Show, and The West Wing. They also have a local connection: Whiffenpoof (and Marshall alum) Sam Bolen is a Duluth native.
Tickets will be $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors, and children five and under are free. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling Marshall School at 727-7266, or can be purchased on the night of the event. Doors will open at 6 pm. The entire community is welcome and encouraged to see this once in a lifetime performance by the Yale Whiffenpoofs. Members of the group will be available for interviews in advance.
