When the Department of Public Welfare reorganization plan was first publicly published in the first week of January, the public outcry was such that it eventually led o the January 7 meeting at the state hosital auditorium that had over 1,000 concerned people overflow the meeting. News about the state hospital not only dominated the news print in January but during the remainder of 1984. The state hospital system and all that surrounded the issue in `984 by and away makes it the biggest story of 1984. The state hospital and its future will no doube also be one of he biggest stories for the year 1985. 10 years agoEarl Stein “an American hero” part of Navy log An admiral in Washington says Earl Stein of Moose Lake, MN is truly an American hero. Rear Admiral Henry C. McKinney, US Navy (retired), president of the US Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, annouced that the name of Earl Stein has been enshrined in the Nav Log at the US Nav Memorial, the natinal monument in Washington, D.C. which honors all who have served in America’s naval sercvices. The Log is in the Naval Heritage Center next to the Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue midway between the White House and the Capitol. Stein’s record of service is permanently inscribed and celebrated on teh Heritage Center’s Log Room interactive video displays. “This is where we keep track of some real American heroes, like Mr. Stein, among the millions of men and women who have served their country in the naval service. They did their duty in a tough environment, away from home and never far from danger.
