Antique Appraisals with Steve Wesely of Cresent Sales and Auctioneering were held on Tuesday, March 2nd at the Moose Lake Civic Center. Appraisals were held at 1:00 p.m. Eleven individuals participated.

The first “Star of the Show” was a series of pamphlets and catalogs for farm equipment. The first one was an 1898 users manual for the ‘Steam Traction Engine”. It was in mint condition. Estimated value $50-60. The second pamphlet was the Maytag washer engine users manual. It too was in mint condition. A very collectible item. Estimated value $30-40. The third catalog was from the Hudson Supply Company from 1931. It too, was in mint condition. Estimated value $6-10.

The second “Star of the Show” was a Japanese ceramic charger type plate in the Rose Medallion pattern. It was hand painted, and was approximately 12 inches in diameter, and in very good condition. Estimated age circa 1930. Estimated value $75-125.

The third “Star of the Show” was a Waltham pocket watch with a gold filled case, circa 1920. It was still in running order, and had a 23 jewel movement, and a porcelain face. Estimated value $150-200.

A depression era knock off celery dish and small oval plate were presented. They were both light blue in color, but not a set. Estimated age 1950’s. Estimated value $23-25 for both of the pieces.

A mechanical pocket model tape measure was shown. It was an advertisement for Buick. It had a cloth tape, and an automatic rewind feature. Estimated age circa 1940. Estimated value $16-18.

A silver plated cocktail shaker, circa 1950 was shown. Bar and cocktail items are very collectible at this time. Estimated value $$8-12.

A piano accordion and case, circa 1950 was presented. It seemed to be in good condition. The presenter indicated it had been his fathers, and hadn’t been played in a number of years. Estimated value for the accordion and its case $250+.

A silver plated gravy boat with attached under plate was shown. Estimated age, circa 1950. Estimated value $6-10.

An eight inch French porcelain decorative dish was shown. It had recently been purchased at a local auction. It looked old, but...It wasn’t hand painted, the stamp on the bottom, and the bottom itself gave indications that the piece wasn’t as old as it had been made to look. Estimated age 20+ years. Estimated value $10-15. (which, by the way, was what the presenter had paid for the item)

Several pieces of railroad memorabilia from the D M & N railroad were shown. A small engraved creamer and sugar was presented. Estimated age circa 1915. Estimated value $80-100.

Also shown was a small pewter, single serving sized coffee/tea pot from the Carter Hotel. Estimated age circa 1925. Estimated value $13-16.

A small, approximately 4 cup silver plated tea pot with a ebony handle was shown. Approximate age, circa 1930. Estimated value $16-18

A humidor and smoking stand was shown. Estimated age circa 1940. It was in good condition, but its box was not lined with metal, and the inside of the door showed where a pipe rack had probably been attached. Estimated value $50-70.

A silver plated one quart water pitcher and 8 goblets were present. The goblets and pitcher were not a set. Estimated age Circa 1950. Estimated value $14-16 on the pitcher and $28-30 on the set of 8 goblets.

Some very old sheet music was shown. Most of it was in very poor condition. Paper was so old it was brittle, and had chunks missing. Some of the graphics on several of the items were quite collectible. Depending on condition, any where from less than $1 to $5.

The next appraisals will be held on Tuesday, April 6th at the Moose Lake Civic Center at 1:00 p.m.
