The distinctive traits that define the cooperative way of doing business will be the focus of East Central Energy’s (ECE) 74th Annual Meeting Saturday, April 10. ECE invites members to bring their families to Cambridge-Isanti High School in Cambridge, MN, to experience “The Cooperative Difference” firsthand. The annual meeting epitomizes the members-first approach that guides ECE. It’s a fun social event, as well as a forum for members to ask questions, learn about their cooperative and take part in the business proceedings. Activities begin at 7:30 a.m. when the free and delicious pancake breakfast gets underway. For a bird’s eye view of the area, children can take a bucket truck ride. There will be bingo in the auditorium from 7:30-9 a.m. and opportunities to win prizes at a number of ECE booths. Exhibits will focus on the co-op’s programs to help members reduce energy consumption and save money. Electrical safety demonstrations will be featured, and McGruff® the crime-fighting dog will mingle with the crowd. Free licensed child care will be available. The business meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. ECE President and CEO Garry Bye will review the co-op’s financial report for 2009 and provide an update on issues facing the energy industry. Members will have an opportunity to ask questions about their cooperative and learn more about the costs of distributing electricity safely and reliably. Jason Oestreich, a member from Mora, has brought his two children to the annual meeting for the past three years. “The kids were interested in the demonstrations, especially the safety exhibit, and they like the boom (bucket) truck rides,” he said. “It’s educational and entertaining with all the activities that are planned. We look forward to it.” For more information about the ECE Annual Meeting, visit eastcentralenergy.com or call 1-800-254-7944.
